Jordanโ€™s 1996โ€“97 season is one for the history books. In Game 5 of The Finals, MJ put on a legendary performance, scoring 38 points, grabbing seven rebounds and handing out five assists while suffering a 103-degree temperature against the Utah Jazz. MJ would ultimately lead his team to yet another title.
Similar to MJโ€™s enduring drive, the technology and construction of the Air Jordan XII helped solidify it as one of the most durable Air Jordans of all time. And like Michaelโ€™s own style, the design of the shoe communicated a bold and striking elegance.
In 1996, MJ took his game to Tokyo, Japan, to host a basketball clinic and participate in a friendly showcase with other NBA superstars. He was spotted in his current signature shoe at the time, the Air Jordan 12, which takes design inspiration from a vintage fashion shoe from the 1920s that utilized a radiant quilted pattern. This College Navy, University Red and Sail colorway pays homage to that experience and adds additional details including an embossed kimono print and โ€œAir Jordanโ€ in Japanese characters.
